For those of you who don't know me very well, I usually stick to three kind of books: weird, sci-fi ish kinda books, mystery also kinda strange books with courtroom drama intertwined, and sappy lovey romance books (like anything by Nikolas Sparks). But as I was browsing my library's shelves, a bright pink cover caught my eye and I read the words "The Science of Being Single". And as a newly single gal, I figured why not? I could use a change up in my reading habits. This non-fiction book followed a writer's experiment in the dating realm. Quite hysterical.
She goes through a bunch of methods and whether or not they worked - online dating, matchmaking services, being set up through a friend, blind dates, and using "rules" out of dating books. Throughout the year-ish the experiment took place, she writes and documents about the type of men she meets, what she learns, and anything and everything that went wrong/right on these dates. My personal favorite is when she was at dinner with a sexy man and he said she had something by her mouth - they hadn't eaten yet and she realized it was a booger that must've flown out of her nose. I died.
She really inspired me to do a similar experiment. No time soon being I'm about a month out of a 2 year relationship and the thought of dating anyone else literally makes me feel sick...but maybe next summer when I'm good & ready I can blog about all my different dating exploits.
If you're looking for a fun read to breeze through while you lay out and tan or just need something easy to read in between something heavy, totally recommend this - single or not - you'll get a good laugh and might even learn a little bit about yourself.
What's the best/worst date you've been on? Would you want to document your dates? Interested in this book? Read any other books like this one? Share below!

The New Age of Reading
Recently, I finished The Hunger Games trilogy and it took a lot longer than expected. Because it takes me a week TOPS to finish a book, I never like buying them - besides my bookshelf is overflowing with books that I haven't touched more than once. So instead, I take advantage of the public library. I was on the waiting list for the second book in the series for about 3 weeks and couldn't read the third one without reading the second first. I was annoyed. I seriously considering investing in a kindle or a nook so I wouldn't have the hassle of waiting for another book again. I made a mini pro/con list in my head...
Kindles and nooks are great, lightweight, come with snazzy covers, and have thousands of books to download with the click of a keyboard. They seem great..except that it's just like reading on a computer screen. I don't know about you guys, but my eyes get so extremely tired spending hours looking at a screen. I much prefer reading print. I also love the feeling of a printed book in my hands. The yellowing pages, although gross and something smelly, are almost magical in a way. Hundreds of people could have held that same book you are now reading and each person took something different away from the words on the pages. So although a kindle/nook is your own personal portable library, you almost lose the magic of the printed word.
As of right now, I'll be sticking with my Brooklyn Public Library card..but I can't imagine libraries existing 20 years from now.
What are your thoughts on Kindles and Nooks? Do you own one? Do you prefer them to 'old fashioned' hard/soft cover books? Would love some feedback!

..and away we go!
Hello blogging universe and welcome to the DONK diaries!
A little bit about what to expect from this blog:
1. Book Reviews: I am committed to doing more reading now that I don't have pointless college textbooks/articles to consume my time and I hope to be able to read at least one book a week and will be posting at least one review a week - probably on Fridays. So tomorrow will have my first book review!
2. Movie Reviews: This probably won't happen often unless I have a really strong opinion about a newly released film. I don't like to spend money on movies when I can get it on bootleg for half the price.
3. Show Commentary!! : This will include The Bachelorette and So You Think You Can Dance for the summer...and Fringe, Modern Family, The Office, and Glee in the fall.
4. Social Media Links: I am interning this summer at Likeable Media (SHOUTOUT) and will be posting my favorite other blogs pertaining to social media.
5. Random life happenings: Any funny anecdotes from my internship, weekend city adventures, trips to Albany seeing my boyfriend Zac and my friends still there from school, or just whatever I wanna rant about
6. Last, and probably most often Working Out: I did all 90 days of P90X and am now a BeachBody Coach trying to help others reach their fitness goals. This summer I will be tackling TURBOFIIREEEEEE (super pumped) and will be blogging results. While I'm here I might as well post my main website for Beachbody: http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/sdonk89
and anyone who comes across this and is considering getting their fitness in gear, I'm here to help PLEASEE contact me and we'll take it one step at a time.
So there you have it. The DONK Diaries have officially begun. Over and out.
